Mechanical Engineer I (DET-0724)


General Responsibilities:
Under general direction of a higher level engineer or manager, the primary responsibility of this position is to design, plan, test, and coordinate multiple processes of product development used in automotive suspension design and application.

Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this position includes, but is not limited to:

  • Design engineer responsible for mechanical underbody chassis components for suspension dampers, brake calipers, steering gears and rear axle propeller shafts. Activities to include mechanical design, virtual and physical validation activities and product life cycle management interfacing with customer, manufacturing, program management and sales for the respective design engineering elements.
  • Job rotations to include product design, validation testing and manufacturing activities at the engineering technical center and manufacturing sites in North America.
  • Tunable hardware chassis components such as steering, damper and brake calipers include in vehicle development experience at in house and customer test facilities to achieve target vehicle dynamic performance characteristics.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess a bachelor degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline)
  • Have a minimum of 0-3 years applicable experience in related field
  • Have working knowledge and experience with APQP program management
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Microsoft Project
  • Experience with the following is desired, (not required): CAD software (i.e. CATIA V5, Solidworks preferred), Math software – Matlab/Simulink, Programming Language – Visual Basic, C++ and Statistical software – ie. Minitab
  • Have experience tracking and reporting design changes.
  • Have experience coordinating and facilitating several small projects or one major project.
  • Experience interfacing with customers is a plus.
