Job Summary:
The intern will work with the software tools and instrumentation team to develop an engineering environment for the software design engineers. The engineering environment includes software design tools, software compilers and build tools, software test benches, test equipment, and data acquisition equipment. Under the supervision of senior or lead engineers, the intern will assist in the development of in-circuit debugger test scripts, build electrical load boxes and harnesses, configure hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems, work with ECU calibration tools, and develop continuous integration scripts.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of automotive suspension, powertrain, and AD/ADAS control modules. Learn how ECU’s interface with sensors and actuators to control systems.
  • Learn how to reprogram control module flash memory and how to use debug tools to interact with software running on a 32-bit embedded microcontroller.
  • Learn embedded software design practices and procedures.
  • Experience being part of a real-world engineering team in an industry undergoing rapid, exciting technological change.

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Be in the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and completed second year of coursework. Computer Science students are accepted if electives support embedded systems.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8.
  • Demonstrated embedded software aptitude.
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating several small or one major project.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Very good organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently while provided proper direction.
  • Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools, software IDE’s, etc. Experience with Linux is a plus.
